What if you had a tiny device to track your reps, sets, duration, speed, and intensity? Would you work out more? Would you work out harder? Yeah, me neither, but I'd use it to barter with a strong, fit person who actually would in exchange for their helping me move my dresser so I can locate the Superman ring I dropped behind it. The Amiigo records the details of various types of exercise routines and how they affect the body. In addition to output stats, it will also give readings for heart rate, blood oxygen levels, skin temperature, overall activity level, and calories burned. Amiigo stands out from existing fitness trackers by providing a more personalized experience with and connection to exhaustion and pain; it both recognizes specific activities, such as running, swimming, elliptical-ing, and bicep curling, to give tailored feedback about their associated movements in real time, and stores the information for hours afterwards. In case the overachievers out there want to download their results into complex Excel spreadsheets or, better, share them on Facebook to inspire brag to others.

Also, if Amiigo encounters an activity it does not recognize, users can record the new exploit to the device's memory for instant recall in the future. Hmmm, I believe what we have here is a legitimate way to prove to girls once and for all that the horizontal tango burns thousands and thousands of calories.

Amiigo comes as a two-part set: a bracelet to capture upper body and a shoe clip to record lower body movements. Shoe clips improve detailed tracking capabilities for cyclists and those performing leg exercises or other endeavors with limited arm involvement. The two work best used in tandem, but can also function independently if users aren't wearing shoes, or can't have anything on their wrist. Both pieces are 100% waterproof, which is good news because the exercise-obsessed girl I plan to woo with my Amiigo sweats like a frikkin' geyser. One time at the gym a concerned fellow member ran over and pointed to a puddle on the floor, warning her to be careful of the leak in the ceiling, and she had to tell the guy it wasn't a leak in the ceiling it was her sweat. Haha, I'm so glad I'm sedentary.

Amiigo connects to iOS and Android phones using Bluetooth 4.0, and welcomes hackers and makers with its open-source SDK. A veritable next-generation fitness tracker, the Amiigo runs as an Indiegogo campaign through March 15, 2013.

December 2013 Update: The Amiigo is now in production for crowdfunding backers, and will presumably be available for direct purchase through the company's Website in the future--follow the link below for more information.
