Rejoice ye liquor-sipping non-smokers who thought the Octopus Pipes we featured last month would be cool, if only you inhaled. Kraken Flasks are here to evoke equal reverence from those who enjoy a fine swig of Scotch or nip of brandy. And hang on, teetotalers, you're not SOL either. The Kraken also serves as a worthy keeper of your olive oil and mouthwash. OK, he's a little (as in a lot) cost-prohibitive for a halitosis-fighter relegated to the bathroom counter, but the child of Tethys and Poseidon can't wreak havoc cheap.
Artist Elstwhen hand-sculpts Krakens, made from a stone-like material and Haematite eyes, onto their varying-shaped glass vessels, and then hand paints them with acrylic and a gloss finish. All Kraken Flasks in her series have names and personal tales of intrigue accompanying them. The featured black mythological cephalopod is called the Sooty Vent Kraken, known for its elusive nature and vicious temperament. Both of which leave little doubt about its ability to keep the Captain's rum safe from rogue pirates and David Hasselhoff. It has an 8-ounce capacity and measures 5 1/4" tall x 4 1/2" wide.
Other flasks in the collection, from one wrapped in a psychedelic electric blue and white octopus to a glistening navy stunner, run $185 to $300, depending on shape, size, and Kraken detail.
