Goat Mug - Viking Horn Insulated Coffee Mug
We've seen Viking drinking horns that hold brew before, but the Goat Mug takes a different approach with the word, showing off its arcing conical shape in the form of an insulated drink carrier designed especially for brews of the coffee and tea persuasions.
Also unlike traditional drinking horns, Goat Mugs are not so named because they're made from the horns of bovids. According to maker Goat Story, goats are the brilliant beasts who discovered coffee. In the 13th century, a flock of them wandered into a bush of unknown berries, and since goats will eat anything from blackberry brambles that tear up human flesh to the souvenir T-shirt I got from the Dukes of Hazzard museum in Nashville, they did not hesitate to chow down. Result: a flock of goats jacked up on caffeine. And a shepherd who was like, "Yeah I want some of that."
The shepherd brewed up the berries, the townsfolk went cuckoo for it, a bunch of centuries passed, coffee became a multi-billion-dollar industry, and now. Now we pay our respects to the goats with an insulated coffee mug in the shape of a horn.
Goat Mugs come in 12- and 16-ounce sizes, and include a slip-on insulating sleeve you can convert into a stand when it comes to dealing with how to set a pointy-edged object filled with liquid on a flat surface. Each Goat Mug also comes with 2 detachable straps, one that fits over the wrist, and the other that affixes to the 2 ends of the mug, allowing you to carry it over your shoulder or, for the supreme hipsters, cross-body.
Goat Story describes their horn mugs as "Baa-wesome," and while I don't know if I'd go as far as bleating over them, I do think the Goat would score well in the gifts for men and mug gifts categories this holiday season.
