David Lamolla's modern kids' playhouses are smart and snazzy designs for your budding architects, your preschool aesthetes, and your own (usually futile) efforts not to trash up your yard with a bunch of kiddie crap.

Like any fine design, Lamolla's playhouses don't come cheap, but I suppose once the squirts get too big or too into parking themselves in front a screen indoors to use them, you can convert the Japanese-inspired futuristic shelters into a shed or, like, Darth Vader Meditation Chamber.

Lamolla currently has 2 playhouse styles available, Kyoto Junior and Kyoto Maxi. Both are made of birch plywood painted white and come with factory pre-assembled windows and doors. Kyoto Maxi also includes pre-assembled stairs, because it's additional size extends upward into a second story, rather than outward. Lamolla says playhouses are "as easy to assemble as IKEA furniture."

Not sure what to make of that given all the jokes and memes about how hard it is to assemble IKEA furniture.
