This is the Halo Top pitch: 240 to 280 calories per pint*, and it more than doesn't suck. In fact, get a jar of PB2, mix some of that powdery peanut butter goodness into a personal vat of Halo Top Chocolate, and you won't just feel like an angel for sparing your gut a fat dump of fat and sugar, you'll actually feel like your taste buds have brushed the city limits of Culinary Heaven.

Having downed at least 2 dozen pints of Halo Top to date, yes, I really do think this ice cream substitute is that good. And with most flavors containing just 240 calories, plus 24 grams of protein and no fake sugars or other artificial ingredients, you can even call on Halo Top Monday morning to detox from all the crap you ate during the Super Bowl.

To me, Halo Top tastes a lot like what they called "ice milk" when I was growing up. I heard several years ago that the FDA banned the commercial use of that term for some reason, so if you don't remember ice milk, think a little colder and a little less thick-n-creamy than full-fat ice cream, but still acceptably velvety in texture, and just as authentic in flavor.

I would recommend the Chocolate for Halo Top Tasting Round 1, and if you like that, go for the Lemon Cake. At printing, Halo Top was churning 7 flavors, including Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Lemon Cake, Mint Chip, Chocolate Mocha Chip, and Birthday Cake. You can buy the health-conscious ice cream at many large grocery stores, including Whole Foods. It is also available for online order through the link below.

August 2017 Update: Since my original post Halo Top added a handful of new flavors to their the-pint-is-mine lineup. Pptions such as Peanut Butter Cup, Sea Salt Caramel, and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough wear a slightly smaller (or larger, depending on how you look at it) Halo at 320 to 360 calories each.
