Tanita Ironman Body Composition Scale
Even though the Tanita Ironman gets down and dirty with its data, it's possible this is one scale whose numbers could actually make you feel better about your weight. Rather than just flashing out measurements of mass, the Ironman provides a more complete picture of your health and fitness level with its readings of 9 different components of body composition.
Step onto the Ironman and you'll be able to monitor and track:
- Body fat %
- Body water %
- Muscle mass
- Bone mass
- Basal metabolic rate (number of daily calories required just to operate your body at rest)
- Physique rating
- Visceral fat level (potentially bad fat we carry in the belly)
- Metabolic age
- Weight
Tanita uses Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to generate its body composition estimates. While not as accurate as Hydrostatic Testing (essentially dunking yourself in a bathtub at a testing center) Tanita says its BIA technique combined with "a very smart algorithm" produce the easiest and most precise at-home results you can get.
Tanita's body comp measurer itself measures just over 1/2" thick and weighs 3 pounds.
