Backflow incense burners are ceramic designs that hold an incense cone (rather than a stick) at their peak. When lit the cones release smoke that kind of billows and hovers along burner channels or near its output point. The effect can be dreamy as a fountain, mysterious as a castle tower in the mist, eerie as a ominous wizard, or - most appropriate here - comforting as a pot of tea.
The backflow incense burners shown here feature a pair of hands holding a teapot and teacup that serve as vehicle and receptacle for the smoky waterfall effect created when you light your incense. Incense burner makers say the hands are Buddha's, but I really doubt that since as far as I know, Buddha had only one pair of hands, and there are many, many "Buddha hand" backflow incense burners available for purchase.
