You can drop the cash to install a built-in yard irrigation system, or keep running outside every couple of hours, timing it...just...right to grab the sprinkler when its arc of water is on the other side of you, and move it to the next dehydrated portion of the garden. Or you can catch a ride on the Raintrain. A big yellow tractor that spouts and spins water from a pair of rotating arms in its driver's seat, the Raintrain self-propels itself across your lawn, following whatever pattern you design with your "rail" hose.

The traveling sprinkler can water up to 13,500 square feet of grass and plantings with a single hose layout and has options for high and low motor speeds. On high the Raintrain chugs along at 37 feet per hour, with a 1/4" water application, and on low it moves 21 feet per hour, with a 1/2" water application. Sprinkler arms are also adjustable to different spray patterns and arcs, whipping water between 15 and 56 feet away. I imagine jubilant children who like to play in sprinklers on hot summer days will be especially keen on the Raintrain, but I also imagine they will break it.
