Artemis Design Co. Kilim Turkish Rug Loafers
No doubt Artemis Design Co.'s Kilim Turkish Rug Loafers are breathtaking. ... I'm just trying to figure out if I mean that in a good way or a bad way.
On the one hand, each pair of Artemis Loafers is made from a real, usually vintage Kilim Turkish textile, and takes two days to make by hand. So the shoes are both upcycled, and artisanal, with most of the textiles coming from the hands of female artists, and the shoes cobbled by a family business in Istanbul.
On the other hand, loafers made out of Turkish rugs look kind of like Cosby sweaters for your feet. And neither Cosby sweaters, nor Cosby himself, are very appealing anymore. I don't want to totally dog Artemis Design Co.'s efforts and aesthetic though, so maybe think of Kilim Loafers as more like ugly Christmas sweaters for your feet? Those are still enjoying some popularity, even if it's only for a month out of the year.
